How to Delete a Reddit Account

Deleting your Reddit account is a permanent action that removes your profile, posts, comments, and message history from the platform. If you have a Reddit Premium subscription, it will not automatically cancel, so ensure you cancel it before deactivating your account to avoid future charges.

Before you start

• You must be logged into the Reddit account you wish to delete.
• Ensure you have canceled any active Reddit Premium subscription to avoid future charges.
• Download any data you wish to keep, as this process is irreversible.

How to Delete a Reddit Account

1. Access User Settings on Desktop

Go to the Reddit website and log in to your account. Click on your profile picture in the top-right corner and select 'User Settings' from the dropdown menu.

2. Navigate to Deactivation

In the User Settings menu, scroll down to the bottom of the page. You will find a section labeled 'Deactivate Account'. Click on the 'Deactivate' button next to it.

3. Confirm Deactivation

Reddit will prompt you to confirm your decision. You will need to enter your Reddit username and password, and optionally, provide feedback on why you are leaving. Once done, click 'Deactivate' to confirm.

4. Deactivate on iOS/Android

Open the Reddit app and tap on your profile picture. Go to 'Settings' and scroll down to find the 'Deactivate Account' option. Follow the prompts to confirm and deactivate your account.

5. Cancel Reddit Premium

If you have an active Reddit Premium subscription, you need to cancel it separately. Go to 'User Settings', then 'Payments', and follow the instructions to cancel your subscription.

Tips & shortcuts

• After deactivating, your account will be scheduled for deletion after 30 days. If you log in during this period, the deactivation will be canceled.
• Ensure you have saved any data you wish to keep, as deactivating your account will permanently delete all your posts and comments.
• If you change your mind, you can log back in within 30 days to restore your account.
• Consider downloading your Reddit data before deactivating your account if you want to keep a record of your activity.

Troubleshooting

• If the 'Deactivate Account' option is greyed out, ensure you are using the latest version of the Reddit app or browser.
• If you are still being charged for Reddit Premium, double-check that you have successfully canceled your subscription in the 'Payments' section.
• If you cannot find the 'Deactivate Account' option, try accessing it from the desktop site, as the option may not be available on all mobile versions.
